vCenter inventory and navigation


We will have three sections to manage the vCenter with vSphere Client.

  • Inventory
  • Administration
  • Management

Inventory

  • Search: - We can search the inventory items from here (virtual machines, Templates, Datastores,..etc).

  • Hosts and Clusters: - this is most common view for the admins where they can manage ESXi hosts, virtual machines, and other configurations
  • VM’s and templates: - Shows the Virtual machines and temples inventory.
  • Datastores and Datastore clusters: - from here we can manage all storage related configurations.
  • Networking: - from here we can manage virtual network of this vCenter

 

Administration

  • From here we can define the roles for admins.
  • We can monitor current sessions to this vCenter
  • We can Manage Licensing, system logs and other vCenter related settings.

 

Management

  • From here we can Create and manage schedule tasks.
  • We can monitor different actions take by admins (Whats happening in vCenter) from Events.
  • Maps will show us the connectivity between Hosts, storage, VM’s and networks.
  • Host profiles will let we create, attach and manage  profiles (will have an in-depth discussion later part of the course)
