Passwd command

This command is used to change the password of the current user account. This command can use in two prompts like user prompt and admin prompt.

At user prompt the current user can change his or her password where as from admin prompt which is used to change the other user’s password.

Running passwd with no options will change the password of the account running the command.

Syntax :

$ passwd [ user name ]
